England is attempting to poach American physician assistants to work there.  They are offering $1350 to help cover relocation, 41 days paid vacation and free flights home during holidays.  They would also earn about $40,400 per year.         Top

Whiting Forensic Division hospital, the only maximum security psychiatric hospital in Connecticut, is in the news and not for doing good.  The hospital has had 31 staff members suspended and nine arrested for patient abuse.  Watch for multiple patients getting mucho dinero from the state.

Dana Farber Cancer Institute said Epic was a drag on their finances causing an operating loss of over $44 million in the third quarter.  They say the system has cost them over $25 million since it was installed three years ago in patient billings.

The University of Illinois has agreed to spend $100 million to upgrade its Chicago medical record system.  This is another system going with Epic.  They will spend much more than this in down time and lost revenues.  Bad business decision.

Temple has decided to join the chorus.  Temple University Health reported an operating loss of $5.7 million for the year largely due to EPIC.  They had higher than expected (as everyone does) staffing costs related to EPIC implementation.

Of course, no blog would be complete without the worst system in the country Florida's Broward Health.  They now have a whistleblower suit filed against it for having their past CEO Frank Nask dong an illegal kickback deal with 21st Century Oncology in return for political backing to keep his $680,000 a year position at the public hospital.  The suit was filed by the former head of the Board of Trustees.        Top
